About the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is the apex regulator of Pakistan’s capital markets and corporate sector, as the ad itself puts it. Its Prosecution and Civil Litigation Department handles the Commission’s court work, including corporate and white-collar crime prosecution. In fact, this department is the hiring unit for all seven posts in this round.

Most of these posts sit in the capital, so also check Islamabad jobs and other government jobs on ixjob.pk.

Vacancies, experience and age limits

The four titles form a clear ladder, because the enrolment and experience bars rise with each step. So read your row first, then open the detailed section below it.

Post Location Positions Advocate High Court Post-qualification experience Maximum age
Director Karachi 1 13 years 15 years 50 years
Additional Director Islamabad 1 10 years 12 years 45 years
Joint Director Islamabad 2 8 years 10 years 45 years
Deputy Director Islamabad (2), Lahore (1) 3 4 years 6 years 40 years

Director, Prosecution and Civil Litigation, Karachi

The Director post is the senior role in this round, and it sits in Karachi. You need an LL.B. or LL.M. from an HEC-recognized university, plus enrolment as an Advocate of the High Court for at least 13 years with an active practice.

Your post-qualification experience must reach at least 15 years. SECP prefers 13 years as an Advocate of the High Court with proven experience of independently handling corporate and criminal prosecution (white-collar crime) and advisory work. The maximum age is 50 years on the closing date. Above all, the white-collar prosecution record matters most at this level.

Additional Director, Prosecution and Civil Litigation, Islamabad

Meanwhile, the Additional Director sits one step below, in Islamabad. The degree requirement is the same LL.B. or LL.M. from an HEC-recognized university, while the enrolment bar drops to at least 10 years as an Advocate of the High Court with an active practice.

You need at least 12 years of relevant post-qualification experience. Again, SECP prefers candidates who have independently handled corporate and criminal prosecution (white-collar crime) and advisory work. The maximum age is 45 years on the closing date.

Joint Director, Prosecution and Civil Litigation, Islamabad

Similarly, two Joint Director posts are open in Islamabad. You need the same law degree, plus at least 8 years of enrolment as an Advocate of the High Court with an active practice.

The experience bar is at least 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience. Proven independent handling of corporate and criminal prosecution (white-collar crime) and advisory work is preferred, as with the senior posts. The maximum age is 45 years on the closing date. In short, a proven prosecution record strengthens the application here too.

Deputy Director, Prosecution and Civil Litigation, Islamabad and Lahore

By contrast, the Deputy Director tier carries three posts: two in Islamabad and one in Lahore. You need an LL.B. or LL.M. from an HEC-recognized university and at least 4 years of enrolment as an Advocate of the High Court with an active practice.

You also need at least 6 years of relevant post-qualification experience in corporate-related litigation and prosecution, including those 4 years as an Advocate of the High Court. The maximum age is 40 years on the closing date. However, candidates with at least 3 years of work experience with a regulator receive an age relaxation of 5 years, so their effective cap is 45. As a result, this post is the realistic entry point for most applicants in this round.

Common eligibility and preferences

The same preference pattern repeats at every level, so read these points once for all four posts.

  • For every post, the university must be HEC-recognized and the High Court enrolment must come with an active practice.
  • Preference goes to candidates who completed the Bar-at-Law qualification after LL.B. or who hold an LL.M. degree.
  • Similarly, experience in regulatory bodies, companies, corporate litigation and practice earns preference at every level.
  • SECP counts the age on the closing date for submission of applications.
  • The ad encourages applications from female candidates, minorities, persons with special abilities, and candidates from Balochistan, Ex-FATA districts, Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK.

Contract terms and selection process

The ad prints one set of terms for all seven positions. Therefore, the contract, selection and cancellation rules below apply equally to Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.

  • All appointments are contractual for a term of 3 years, extendable on organizational need and performance.
  • After completion of 3 years, the Commission may consider regularization of these positions, subject to fulfilment of the prescribed criteria.
  • SECP will run selection through a multi-stage evaluation process.
  • SECP will contact only shortlisted candidates for further assessment.
  • SECP reserves the right to cancel the recruitment and selection process at any stage.
  • Late applications will not be considered, so submit well before the closing date.
